McCarthy Family Properties

Welcome and thank you for choosing McCarthy Family Properties for your vacation home away from home! We are so excited for you to spend time here in the beautiful Surfside Beach area.

There are house rules you need to know about (only a few!) and some information about our houses that will help make your stay more enjoyable. Please read on!

Important House Information

Dog Hours for the beach: From May 1st through Labor Day dogs are not permitted from 10am – 5pm. All other times and dates dogs are allowed on the beach any time.

HOUSE RULES

  • Absolutely no grilling on the patio. If you bring or rent a grill, please keep it under the house towards the edge of the concrete so the smoke doesn’t hit the bottom of the house.
  • Please respect your neighbors at night. You are welcome to hang out on the patio but be aware that sound travels. Quiet hours start at 11pm.
  • Please leave the windows and doors closed as much as possible if you have the A/C on. This will help keep the house cool too!
  • Because our guests stay for different time periods, we only supply one roll of paper towels, one trash bag per can, and one roll of toilet paper for each bathroom. If you need help on where to go to get more, just ask!
  • There is a broom and dustpan in the laundry upstairs, if needed. Please do not use the linens to clean the house!

Thank you!

Check-in / Check-out

You may check in any time 4pm or later the day of your arrival. Simply use your code to enter the house as your check-in.

Check out is any time before 10am. If you plan on leaving before 10am, please let us know so we can get the cleaners started early. It gives us more time for the next guest!

Please take any trash and/or recyclables out to the bins under the house.

Please make sure the remotes are left near the cable boxes.

Please close and lock all windows.

Don’t forget anything!

Linens

What’s included:

Bath towels
Wash cloths
Bathmats
Hand towels
Set of kitchen towels
Set of sheets for each bed (each sheet set includes (2) pillow covers, (1) flat sheet, (1) mattress cover).

The linens will be put on to your beds by your cleaning crew before you arrive.

When you are finished with your vacation, simply leave the sheets and towels in place.

Please do not use the linens to clean the house!

PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE THE FOLLOWING:

Mattress pads stay on the mattress. The mattress zipper wraps stay on the mattress. The pillow zipper wraps stay on the pillows. The bedspreads stay on the bed.

Refrigerator / Freezer

Please do not set the refrigerator or freezer on the coldest setting. They will freeze up and not work!

Trash and Recycle Collection

Trash collection during season (End of May-September) is Monday, Thursday, and Saturday. During off-season (October-April) trash collection is only on Saturday.

Recycle is always collected on Friday.

Do not line the outside trash bins with bags. While it is not necessary to roll the bins to the road, we recommend you do so for the collections convenience and to ensure your trash/recycle gets picked up timely.

Laundry - Washer / Dryer

There is a separate washer and dryer in the laundry room. There will be one liquid detergent packet and one dryer sheet packet for you.

Please do not put un-washed clothes and towels into the dryer without washing them! The sand will ruin the dryer. This is especially true of wet beach towels. Please wash all clothing and towels before drying them.

Rid-a-Roach

Our bug maintenance program is handled by Rid-a-roach. They come to the house on the first Tuesday of every odd month. Please allow them in the home to perform the service, the process takes less than 20 minutes.

Air Conditioning / Heat

The house is on a single-unit system. Try to keep both thermostats at a similar temperature to maintain comfort throughout the house. It is very difficult to heat and cool beachfront homes; they are under much more stress than even the houses one row back! Especially during the heat of the summer, it is possible to freeze the system. Please do not set the thermostat below 68 degrees. When the A/C is running, try to keep windows and doors closed as much as possible to avoid over-stressing the system.

Any issues with the system don't hesitate to ask.

Price Refrigeration (our HVAC maintenance company) has their number on the thermostat. Please only call them if it is an emergency and you cannot get a hold of us in a timely manner. Some issues can be solved before having to schedule a service call.

Surfside Beach

Known as “The Family Beach,” Surfside Beach is a small seaside town that is dedicated to family fun and caters to families. This is a more residential feel because many people live here year-round. There are numerous parks and lakes, most of which offer public access.

Activities

The Pier – though damaged from Hurricane Matthew, you can still go out halfway. The new one is being built as you read this and should be done shortly!

Shoreline Watersports – close to your house on 4th avenue public beach access! Parasailing and Banana boat rides are great fun. Some years jet ski rentals are available.

Rent a golf cart and drive up and down Ocean Blvd. This is a local pastime.

Every Tuesday during most of the year is a Farmer’s Market, located in Passive Park.

Check the local calendar for weekly events. Notable annual celebrations include 4th of July and the Car Show. www.surfsidebeach.org/calendar

Food!

River City Café - A Grand Strand classic. Great burgers and an excellent grilled chicken Sandwich. One of the few restaurants located beachfront, so make sure to take advantage of it. And don't forget to throw your peanut shells on the floor!

Neal & Pam’s - A great local hangout. They recently built a brand-new patio. Weekly karaoke nights and great drink specials. Food is good too. Great place to sit on the deck and watch the nightlife drive by on Ocean Blvd. This is the place to be and quickly becoming a local go-to of the area.

Pizza Hyena - A new addition to Surfside. Outdoor seating and good unique pizza. In colder weather they have a small fire pit.

Benjamin’s Bakery - Great spot for your morning coffee. Plenty of variety for caffeinated drinks and breakfast sandwiches. Sometimes has live music in the evenings.

Malibu of Surfside - Excellent homemade-style pasta right here in Surfside. A bit of a more formal setting, make sure to sit down and enjoy a slower paced dinner atmosphere. The owners are always working and do a great job of making you feel comfortable. Get the house wine - it's great!

Big Apple Bagels – A local favorite! It’s across 17 bypass, so while you can walk, we recommend driving. But these bagels are so worth it!

Crabby Mike’s – one of the best buffets in all of the Grand Strand. The hush puppies are awesome. Be ready for a wait, though. This place can get crowded!

Wooden Spoon – Really great Greek gyros! (the owner is Greek)

Murrells Inlet – “The Seafood Capital of South Carolina”

Home to the MarshWalk - one of the best outdoor evening experiences on the Grand Strand. It is a long boardwalk along the water where there are tons of restaurants and bars to enjoy. Live music abounds and there is food of all kinds. Don't forget to take a look at the goats out on the islands!

Dining

Greg’s Cabana Bar & Grill – local favorite and the burgers are the best we’ve ever had! Consistent recommendations from locals include: burgers/cheeseburgers, ribs and chicken sandwiches!

Bovine’s – another local favorite. The hush puppies are addictive!

Wahoo’s – good sushi and a fun place to listen to live music.

Wicked Tuna – one of the more popular places at the inlet.

Gulfstream Café – located on the ocean side of the inlet, this is a very good restaurant. It has one of the best shrimp and grits in the area.

The Market Common

Market Common is a relatively newly constructed community with plenty of shopping, dining, and activities to partake in. This is one of our favorite areas!

Dining

Tidal Creek Brewery – This is a new addition to the area, and it is wonderful! It’s also a great place to bring your dogs as they are very welcome. There is a large outdoor run area for them and a fenced off seating area with firepits and hammocks.

King St. Grille - a popular local hangout. Great food (get the pretzel burger!) and good atmosphere. A great patio for outdoor seating and often has live music.

Nacho Hippo - great quesadillas

Crepe Creation Café - a little French flare for the Grand Strand and really good drinks

Activities

810 Billiards & Bowling – situated in a former grocery store, this is a great place to go and bowl while having a drink. Also has pool tables, shuffleboards, darts, an arcade, and a pretty large mini putt-putt.

The Crazy Mason – located inside of 810 Billiards, this place is SUPER popular. Be prepared to wait for a long time if you go in the evenings. The milkshakes are ridiculously awesome though.

Stone Theaters Grand 14 Cinemas - the best movie theater on the Grand Strand. Stadium-style seating.

Events at the Park - there's always something going on during the summer months. Check the online calendar! www.marketcommonmb.com/events

Broadway at the Beach

Arguably the main place to go out and have fun for visitors and locals alike on the Grand Strand. Food and shopping are everywhere on this massive boardwalk situated around a lake. Get ready to spend a few hours here.

The nightlife can get crazy here for younger kids, but thankfully it is all sectioned off over in its own area. Definitely worth going to if you love the bar scene!

Dining

Yamato Steakhouse Japan – hibachi cooking

Landry's Seafood - great fish dishes here

Paula Deen’s – pretty new and always busy

Activities

Fireworks every Tuesday during the summer months

Ripley's Aquarium - a surprisingly good aquarium. The underwater tunnel is a true highlight and this year there is a new penguin exhibit.

Wonderworks - science based fun for kids – also has indoor ropes course, laser tag and a 50 ft ziplining experience!

There are too many to list here. Check it out for yourself! www.broadwayatthebeach.com

And don't forget to check the online calendar for events going on!

Garden City

If you are looking for something a bit more lively than Surfside Beach, the closest option is Garden City. Less than 3 miles down the road, Atlantic Avenue is home to some great attractions:

The Pier – go fishing, have food and drinks at the main entrance, and during the summer season have a drink at the end of the pier at the bar! If you go in the evenings and watch the fishermen, you’ll probably see a shark or two…

Arcades and boardwalk-style rides are all centered around the pier entrance.

Sam’s Corner – “world famous” hot dogs
